The lists of ingredients in joint supplements can be bewildering and you might ask yourself why so many?

Of all ingredients, only hyaluronic acid (HA) has been proven to be effective in relieving pain and improving mobility in medicine-level trials.

So, you should just look out for HA?  Unfortunately, it's not that easy!

HA needs to be present in super-long chains to be effective and attract lots of water to give it oil-like properties - great for plumping skin and lubricating joints (think very long spaghetti like sponges!).  However, HA chains in many supplements are very short and inconsistent. Why is this?

It's the source of the HA.  Most supplements use HA that's been recovered from poultry processing and other animal tissues and the HA can be short and inconsistent in quality.
